ImmunoCard STAT! C.pneumoniae IgM

Rapid Test for the Detection of C.pneumoniae Igm antibodies.

Chlamydia pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pneumoniae are the most important causes of "atypical pneumonia".
Although symptoms are usually milder than pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, severe disease may occur and require hospitalization.
IgM antibodies detection is the ideal test for  detection of acute infection in school age children and young adults.
Early detection is important considering the benefit of specific antibiotic treatment. 
As both Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia pneumoniae lack a cell wall, beta lactams antibiotics are not effective and macrolides, tetracyclines and newer fluoroquinolones need to be used.
Since viral respiratory infections (Influenza, RSV, Adenovirus) share similar symptoms, differential diagnosis of Mycoplasma and Chlamydia pneumoniae should be carried out to exclude viral infections for which antibiotics are useless.
This test is a good complement to the ImmunoCard Mycoplasma: their use will help in detecting most  "atypical pneumoniae" in pediatric/young adult population.
