Description ParaPak Plus is a disposable system for the collection, fixation and filtration of stool specimens for intestinal parasites examination. The vial contains 13 ml of fixative (10% Formalin, SAF or Ecofix) and has a built-in filter, which simplifies the concentration technique. No filtration device or system is further required.

Specimen processing 1. Shake the vial and open the large cap. 2. Using the wooden spatula (provided) fill the sample collector or use a pipette for liquid specimens. 3. Tightly close the vial and shake. 4. Remove the small cap from the tip. 5. Invert the vial and filter the content in a centrifuge tube, by gently squeezing. 6. Add 1 drop of surfactant and 3 ml of Ethyl Acetate. 7. Close the tube and shake. 8. Centrifuge at 500-1000 g for 10 minutes. 9. Decant the supernatant and clean the inside of the tube with cotton applicator. 10. Resuspend the pellet and examine under the microscope
Kit components ParaPak Plus vials, wooden spatulas, surfactant and Mayer’s Albumin (SAF kits only).
ParaPak Plus 10% Formalin – Catalog # 950405 - 50 units - Catalog # 950420 - 200 units Neutral buffered 10% formalin for preservation and fixation of stool specimens. Classical formula for the Formalin/Ether (or Ethyl Acetate) standard concentration technique (Ritchie’s method).
ParaPak Plus SAF – Catalog # 950205 - 50 units - Catalog # 950220 - 200 units Sodium Acetate Formalin fixative: 2.14% Acetic Acid, 4.3% Formalin, 1.53% Sodium Acetate, 7.45% Isopropyl Alcohol. SAF contains a reduced amount of Formalin and can be used for both concentration and permanent staining (Trichrome or Iron-Haematoxylin) techniques. For permanent staining Mayer’s Albumin (provided) is required for fixing the specimen on the slide.
Storage The kit must be stored at Room Temperature.
