Description

ParaPak Ultra is a disposable system for the collection, fixation and filtration of stool specimens for intestinal parasites examination. The vial contains 15 ml of fixative (10% Formalin, SAF or Ecofix) and has a built-in filter, which simplifies the concentration technique. No filtration device or system is further required.

The special cap has modified lids which fit to 15 or 50 ml centrifuge tubes, creating a completely closed system, minimizing the exposure to potentially infectious agents.

Specimens

Faecal specimens.

 

Specimen processing

1.    Add the specimen to the vial after opening the screw cap and mix thoroughly.

2.    Using the provided key, remove the protective cap from the vial.

3.    Snap and twist off the inner tip.

4.    Add 10 drops of surfactant and mix.

5.    Insert a 15 or 50 ml centrifuge tube into the top of the vial.

6.    Invert and squeeze for filtering.

7.    Add 6 ml of 10% Formalin, plus 3 ml of Ethyl Acetate or Ether

8.    Close the tube and shake.

9.    Centrifuge at 500-1000 g for 10 minutes.

10. Decant the supernatant and clean the inside of the tube with cotton applicator.

11. Re-suspend the pellet and examine under the microscope

ParaPak Ultra 10% Formalin – Catalog # 980412 - 120 units

Neutral buffered 10% formalin for preservation and fixation of stool specimens. Classical formula for the Formalin/Ether (or Ethyl Acetate) standard concentration technique (Ritchie’s method).

 

ParaPak Ultra SAF – Catalog # 980212 - 120 units

Sodium Acetate Formalin fixative: 2.14% Acetic Acid, 4.3% Formalin, 1.53% Sodium Acetate, 7.45% Isopropyl Alcohol. SAF contains a reduced amount of Formalin and can be used for both concentration and permanent staining (Trichrome or Iron-Haematoxylin) techniques. For permanent staining Mayer’s Albumin (provided) is required for fixing the specimen on the slide.

 

ParaPak Ultra Ecofix – Catalog # 981312 - 120 units

Ecofix is a proprietary ecological and safe fixative, containing no Formalin or Mercury salts.

It is suitable for direct examination, concentration and permanent staining (in combination with Ecostain set).

 

Storage

The kit must be stored at Room Temperature.
